“Spielfeldforschung” (playing field research) was the name of the performative knowledge platform of the festival steirischer herbst in the years 2006 – 2012. It was not conceived as an academic programme that examines art as an object but rather sought to find ways of exposing itself to art. With a rambling understanding of theory, in formats that allowed visitors to meet artists, theorists and activists in the course of the festival programme.
